Paddle surfing as we know it today originated in Hawaii as an alternative method of surfing waves. Using a paddle and board to surf has come to be known as “paddle surf” by locals, and Hoe He’e Nalu is a Hawaiian phrase for paddle surf.

Hoe He’e Nalu Boardriders is located in Honolulu, Hawaii and we are proud to be one of the first companies to design and manufacture paddle surf boards in Hawaii.

Knowing early on that standup paddle boards required a design unique from the surfboard, Hoe He’e Nalu Boardriders was the first company in Hawaii to begin shaping and designing extra-wide boards in order to create SUPs that would be ultra-stable in all types of water conditions. Today extra wide SUPs have become a design standard throughout the paddle surf industry and we are proud to have led the way. The ease at which anyone can now stand up on a SUP has made paddle surfing one of the most popular outdoor water sports in the world.

But our R&D continues and the evolution of our boards has not stopped. Leading the industry with the use of real wood/bamboo veneer (not all boards that appear to have wood actually are wood; some are less-durable paper panels) as well as introducing composite materials such as carbon fiber into SUP construction, we’ve brought strength, beauty and lasting integrity to SUP design.

With the relentless pursuit to innovate, our shapers and engineers never stop exacting and refining their work; they tap technology, artistry and put their designs to the ultimate test in Hawaii’s ocean and uniquely powerful waves, which gives us complete confidence in all of our products.

As a result, Hoe He’e Nalu Boardriders guarantees our boards for one year from the date of purchase to be free of manufacturing defects. We are the only company known to offer this guarantee. This gives our customers a unique advantage in owning boards that are designed, constructed and guaranteed to last!
